In addition to performing in Othello, as part of the Icarus Theatre Collective the cast have an active part in the work that goes in to getting the production up and running at each theatre.
The set needs to be built, costumes washed, and our lighting rig put up at each venue.
Once the stage has been built it is very important that the musicians do a ‘music call’ – this is where each of the musical pieces is played through, acoustics checked, and any issues addressed.
After the music call, we are on to the ‘fight call’. There are several sword fights in Othello, as well as a lot of other business involving stage combat, and each of these will be gone over on a show day to ensure everything is as safe as possible – particularly as we are performing in different theatres each day or two and therefore have slightly different spaces to work in.
